MAAYA (GB), °2014, Thoroughbred

This is her story..

MAAYA is by LANDO out of TERESA BALBI.
LANDO is a German reference Sire and regarded as one of the best bloodlines in German Thoroughbred breeding. He has won 7 (!!) Group 1 races in Europe, USA and Japan, and has sired numerous champions both on the flat as over hurdles/fences.
Just like MAAYA, her mother TERASA BALBI was trained in France by the famous trainer Bollack-Badel and has competed several races, having won a Listed race.

MAAYA was trained for over 5 years, first in France and later on in Belgium. She won her maiden race at 3 yo in Chantilly (Paris, France).
Her racing career can be summarized as ‘moderate’. Never first out of the gates and lacking the necessary acceleration to overtake the whole field, she gathered lots of 7th places. She performed well in flat races over the longer distances (2400m-3000m) because of her stamina and handled softer ground extremely well. Comments from Tim Devos who trainer her in Belgium: “I have not encountered that many horses with such an exceptional lung capacity”.
She was never raced over hurdles/fences as we wanted her to come back safe and sound, which she did.
In 2021, fate fell upon her and she was hospitalized for over 10 days (colic treatment). With no improvement in sight and having lost over 100 kgs, we picked her up so she could spent her final moments at home with us..

But she was not done fighting and kicked back with the help of an abundant pasture of grass, flowers and herbs, together with the sun and outdoor life. Since that period, she has spend every single day outside..

To be honest, for sure MAAYA does not have the proven dam line that everyone is looking for but as happens in every discipline with sport horses, numerous are those with the best imaginable pedigrees that never enter a competition.

She has it in her to be a good mom and should produce allround horses being able to compete in different disciplines like showjumping, eventing, hunt..

Looking at her story written above, her offspring will be Fighters with good bone, temperament, and a quality pedigree; and it’s hard to imagine them easily running out of steam...

The foal will be registered in the AES-studbook and named with the ‘WW’ prefix standing for ‘WERVELWIND’
